5 Summer Wine & Fruit Pairings
The best way to beat the heat is by staying hydrated with lots of water, but we can also splurge a little and enjoy the fresh tastes of summer with a glass of wine and some of the seasonal harvest – fruit! Wine and fruit pairings are the perfect pairing for a relaxed patio afternoon, or a cool evening treat among friends.

The key to pairing wine and fruit is finding complementary food flavors to match primary, secondary and tertiary aromas within your glass. The key to wine and fruit pairings is focusing on the primary aroma of your wine since these are typically those of fruit and floral. This summer we’re keeping it crisp and fresh, and we’re going to put aside oaked wines and fermented mature fruits – the type of aromas you would find in a tertiary note.

So here are 5 wine and fruit pairings worth a try this summer!

Vermentino & Melon
The perfect combination for a light summer snack would have to be the classic Italian Valcolomba Vermentino della Maremma Toscana DOC and either cantaloupe or honeydew melon. The subtle sweet, honeyed flavors of this wine are brought to life even further with every taste of melon.

Chardonnay & Sauvignon Based Wine & Apples
The minerality of a chardonnay grape, coupled with the acidity of the Sauvignon in a wine like Dogajolo Toscano Bianco IGT makes for an interesting combination when paired with apples. The texture alone of the apple is also part of the winning combo.

Rosato & Cherries
Take a wine like Carpineto’s Dogajolo Toscano Rosato IGT and pair it with a bowl of sour cherries, and you have a summer night to remember.

Chardonnay & Raspberries
Try a Farnito Chardonnay IGT with a few raspberries nearby to pop as snacks, and you will not be disappointed. The subtle fruit flavors of this wine will soon become much less than subtle.

Spumante Brut & Ripe Peaches
Though this sparkling wine is typically paired with heavier fare if pair a Spumante Brut wine with a ripened yellow peach, you are sure to notice the textures and flavors pair perfectly.

Enjoy your summer in company or on your own with two of our favorites - wine and fruit!
