The summer is upon us and that can only mean one thing – it’s time to drink wine! Yes, we know that that is a year-round activity. But here are 7 Italian summer wines to add to your wine fridge.

Spumante Brut Rosé There is nothing like a rosé and a bit of bubble to kick off the summer. This fruit and floral wine made of Traminer grapes is ideas for summer fish dishes, especially like cod. It is a dry, balances and moderately bodied wine which will leave a taste of refined elegance and freshness on the palate. 

Carpineto Dogajolo Toscano Rosato If you want to forgo the bubbles and just stick to rosé this summer, your best bet is a Dogajolo Toscano Rosato. This Tuscan wine is perfect with grilled fish or cheese platters. Its acidity and freshness offers balance, and its bouquet includes floral and fruit aromas such as roses, apple, berries and more.

Extra Special Vernaccia di San Gimignano The perfect summer can only best start with a perfect dry white wine. Made from the Vernaccia grape, this San Gimignano wine evokes fresh scents such as crisp apple, lemon and nuttiness. An interesting wine for any social gathering.  

Piemonte DOC Grignolino Piedmont is famous for its wine production of Nebbiolo, Gavi, Barbera and plenty more but there is one grape that is not talked about as often as it should be - the Grignolino, which makes for an excellent summer white wine. The grape produces wines with a slight bitterness, spice and fruit flavors uch as cherry and raspberry. An excellent wine for cheese platters, tomato salads and pasta salads. Definitely worth it.

Valdadige Pinot Grigio DOC 2016 If you are looking for a summer wine to perfect pair your summer fish dishes, this pinot grigio is a great choise. It is intense and clean on the palate, offering crisp apple flavors in a balanced bouquet. Pair with aluminum wrapped grilled trout and you have a match made in heaven.

Roero Arneis DOCG Made from Arneis or Nebbiolo Blanco grapes, this wine offers delicate pear and almond aromas, which work wonderfully with the sweetness of shellfish. This is one of Italy’s best kept secrets so a bottle of this will certainly be a show stopper among friends.
