Though it is no surprise that wine and love have very similar effects on character. Every April for the past 52 years, the city of Verona has hosted Vinitaly, one of the biggest trade fairs dedicated to wine. This is a fair which is preceded by the prestigious Opera Wine, sponsored by Wine Spectator which gives a yearly ranking of the 100 Best Wines. This year, of the 107 wines awarded, 25 were Tuscan wines which is no surprise, followed by Piedmont and Veneto wines. It’s no surprise that the land of Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano and Chianti Classico took so many of the awards home. This is the territory of the well-known Super Tuscan wines, a territory of great grapes, careful winemaking, historic winemakers with an eye for tradition, innovation and in essence the true epicenter of the great Italian world of viticulture. Among the wines selected by the prestigious American magazine we can find the Appodiato Nobile di Montepulciano Vigneto Poggio Sant'Enrico 2009 of Carpineto.
This cru of the great estate located halfway between the territories of Chianciano and Montepulciano, comes from a rigorous selection of grapes from the vineyard on the southern slope with perfect exposure, giving life to the Sangiovese grapes. This grape is well known for its powerful persistence, with primary, secondary and tertiary aromas ranging from berries to vanilla, walnut, pepper and cocoa. Every sip of this wine is structured, powerful and clean, filling the palate, caressing it with velvet tannins.
The Appodiato Poggio Sant'Enrico is a Noble of Montepulciano that really does justice to the great winemaking tradition of the city of Polizia, set among the hills of the province of Siena in one of the most enchanting places in Italy and even Europe. The wine is characterized by intense red color, despite its age and great structure. The perfect food pairing for this wine can be found in roasts, game, the classic Florentine steak and even desserts, thanks to the great olfactory range. It is an ideal match for desserts which are cocoa and berry based, perfectly congruent to the scents that we find in the glass.
